In the Whirl of Christmas

From Christmas Playlist:

The Bible says that "the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23).  Perhaps you've left that gift under the tree year by year.  Perhaps you've never noticed it before.  Perhaps you've seen it, but ignored it.  Perhaps you've never noticed it before.  Perhaps you've never realized it was for you, or never realized how much you needed it.

From Our Only Comfort:

We forgive because we have been forgiven.  To refuse to forgive is to cut off the very branch you are standing on.  To forgive others is a powerful witness in the world to the reality of God's forgiveness of us.

From Shade of His Hand:
The record of the whirl of things as they are is marvelously stated in these Books of Wisdom:

  • Job - how to suffer
  • Psalms - how to pray
  • Proverbs - how to act
  • Ecclesiastes - how to enjoy
  • Song of Solomon - how to love
From The Air We Breathe:
In the ancient world it (the cross) symbolized degradation, worthlessness, unremitting torture and unredeemed loss - "the extreme penalty"... Corpses cut down from the cross would routinely be cast into a ditch to be pecked at by birds and eaten by dogs.  Those crucified were garbage.
