More Than a Christmas Story - An Essential to My Faith
The Good News We Almost Forgot by Kevin DeYoung
Q. What do you confess when you say: He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary?
A. The eternal Son of God, Who is and remains true and eternal God, Took upon Himself true human nature From the flesh and blood of the virgin Mary,
Through the working of the Holy Spirit.
Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”
Thus He is also the true seed of David,
2 Samuel 7:12-16 “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men. 15 But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.”
Psalm 132:11 The LORD has sworn in truth to David; He will not turn from it: “I will set upon your throne the fruit of your body.”
and like His brothers in every respect,
Matthew 1:1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:
Luke 1:32 “He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.”
Romans 1:3 …concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh…
Philippians 2:7 …but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
Hebrews 2:17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
yet without sin.
Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Hebrews 7:26,27 For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; 27 who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.
