The Will of God: Drudgery or Delight?

The will of God is not our duty or drudgery.  It is our delight.  - Kevin DeYoung's The Good News We Almost Forgot

What does the third request of the Lord's Prayer mean?

"Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" means,

  • Help us and all people to reject our own wills
  • and to obey your will without any back talk.
  • Your will alone is good.
Help us one and all to carry out the work we are called to,
  • as willingly and faithfully as the angels in heaven.
Matthew 7:21
  • Not every one who says to me, "Lord, Lord," shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 16:24
  • Then Jesus told his disciples, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."
Luke 22:42
  • "Father, if You art willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but Yours, be done.
Psalm 103:20, 21
  • Bless the LORD, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, hearkening to the voice of his word!
  • Bless the LORD, all his hosts, his ministers that do his will.
