The Soul Who Sins Shall Die
Can we by ourselves make this payment?
- Certainly not.
- On the contrary, we daily increase our debt.
For the Bible Tells Me So...
Psalm 130:3
- If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?
- And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
- Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
- But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God…
Can any mere creature pay for us?
- No. In the first place, God will not punish another creature for the sin which man has committed.
- Furthermore, no mere creature can sustain the burden of God’s eternal wrath against sin and deliver others from it.
For the Bible Tells Me So...
Ezekiel 18:4,20
- “Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine; the soul who sins shall die.
- The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.
- Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
- and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
- For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham.
- Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
- For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.
- If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?
- Who can stand before His indignation? And who can endure the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by Him.
