Christ - My Chief Teacher, My Only High Priest, My Eternal King
Why is he called Christ, meaning "Anointed"?
Because he has been ordained by God the Father, and anointed with the Holy Spirit, to be
- my chief Prophet and Teacher,
- who has fully revealed to me
- the secret counsel and will of God
- concerning my redemption;
Psalm 45:7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness; Therefore God, your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions. (cf Hebrews 1:9 where it is quoted in reference to the Son)
Isaiah 61:1 "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound..." (cf Acts 3:22 where it is quoted in reference to Christ)
Luke 3:21-22
- When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened.
- And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased."
Deuteronomy 18:15 "The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear...(cf Acts 3:22 where it is quoted in reference to Christ).
John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
John 15:15. "No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
my only High Priest,
- who by the one sacrifice of His body
- has redeemed me,
- and who continually intercedes for me
- before the Father;
Psalm 110:4. The LORD has sworn and will not relent, "You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek." (cf. Hebrews 7:17 where it is quoted in reference to Christ).
Hebrews 9:12. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
Hebrews 10:11-14
- And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
- But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,
- from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool.
- For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
Romans 8:34. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who dies, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
Hebrews 9:24. For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
1 John 2:1. My little children, these things I write to you, so that you many not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
and my eternal King,
- who governs me by His Word and Spirit,
- and who defends and preserves me
- in the redemption obtained for me.
Zechariah 9:9 "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey." (cf. Matthew 21:5 where this is quoted in reference to Christ).
Luke 1:33 "And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end."
Matthew 28:18-20
- And Jesus came and spoke to them saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
- Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
- teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen."
John 10:28. "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
Revelation 12:10-11
- Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, has been cast down.
- And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did no love their lives to the death."
