To Him Who Destroyed the Power of Death
Q. What do you confess when you say: He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary?

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the
Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 10:30-36
- “I and My Father are one.”
- Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.
- Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?”
- The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.”
- Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods”?
- “If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),
- “do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?
Romans 9:5 …of whom are the fathers and from
whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is
over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.
Colossians 1:15-17
- He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
- For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
- And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
Took upon Himself true human nature from the flesh and blood of the virgin Mary,

Matthew 1:18-23
- Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
- Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.
- But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
- “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”
So all this was done that it might be fulfilled
which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet,
saying: Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt
among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of
the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and
truth.

had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman,
born under the law,
Hebrews 2:14 Inasmuch then as the children have
partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise
shared in the same, that through death He might
destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the
devil,

2 Samuel 7:12-16
- “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.
- He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
- I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men.
- But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.
- And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.”
and like His brothers in every respect,

and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God,
to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest
who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but
was in all points tempted as we are, yet without
sin.
Hebrews 7:26,27
- For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens;
- who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.
